Our Approach to Learning
The KALE Whole-Child Development Framework
Everything we do at KALE is built around a child's whole development — not just academics. Our framework covers all 8 early learning domains, aligned with Virginia's early childhood standards.
The 8 Early Learning Domains
Every part of your child grows here.
KALE teachers intentionally plan activities across all 8 domains every single day. No domain is treated as more important than another — whole-child development means all of it, all the time.
Social-Emotional Development
Children learn to identify and express feelings, build trust, develop relationships, and regulate their behavior in a safe, predictable environment.
Language & Literacy Development
From first babbles to early reading, we build listening, vocabulary, phonological awareness, and a love of books and storytelling every day.
Mathematics
Counting, sorting, patterns, shapes, measurement, and number sense — built through hands-on play and real-world discovery rather than worksheets.
Science
Children investigate, ask questions, and make predictions through experiments, sensory exploration, and nature-based discovery. Future scientists start here.
Social Studies
Children learn about family, community, culture, and their place in the world — building empathy, belonging, and respect for differences from day one.
Creative Arts
Visual art, music, dance, movement, and dramatic play all support creativity, expression, fine motor skills, and joyful learning at every age.
Physical Development
Gross motor and fine motor skills, personal care, safety, nutrition, and healthy habits — because strong bodies support strong minds.
Approaches to Learning
Curiosity, persistence, flexibility, problem-solving, and a growth mindset. These are the skills that make all other learning possible — and KALE builds them every day.
Our Curriculum
Research-based. STE(AI)M™-enriched. Built for every child.
KALE uses the Experience Early Learning curriculum for infants and toddlers — a nationally recognized program built on relationship-based play, individualized instruction, and 36 foundational skills.
Our preschool and school-age programs layer in STEAM Stations — hands-on investigation labs that build science, technology, engineering, arts, and math skills through open-ended exploration.
- Monthly themed units with new storybooks, lessons, and activities
- Individualized pacing — every child's learning fingerprint is unique
- Daily family communication through Brightwheel
- CACFP-sponsored meals included daily
- STE(AI)M™ enrichment layered into every age group
- AI and robotics exposure for preschool and school-age learners
STE(AI)M™ Enrichment
Where curiosity meets the future.
KALE's proprietary STE(AI)M™ framework layers AI literacy, robotics, and computational thinking into everyday early learning — starting younger than you'd expect.
AI Exposure
Age-appropriate introduction to how artificial intelligence works — through stories, questions, and guided discovery. We call it "Curiosity Before College™."
Robotics & Engineering
Children build, test, and redesign using blocks, robots, and guided engineering challenges. Failure is celebrated as part of the process.
Science Investigation
Open-ended STEAM Stations give children real tools, real questions, and real discoveries — not just worksheets. Inquiry is the engine.
Math Through Play
Sorting, counting, measuring, and pattern-building happen through hands-on play so children build number sense organically and joyfully.
Arts Integration
Art, music, drama, and movement aren't extras — they're core tools for learning math, language, science, and self-expression at KALE.
Technology Literacy
From light tables to age-appropriate digital tools, KALE builds foundational technology literacy that prepares children for a digital world — responsibly.
